Helping Students with an Educational Evaluation

When a student demonstrates a significant academic gap or characteristics of a learning disability, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia, intervention services are recommended. Intervention is personalized therapy that addresses the foundational academic gap.

Our individual intervention services begin with an action plan. To determine the action plan, formal testing from either academic testing or a comprehensive educational evaluation (also known as a psycho-educational evaluation) provides a baseline of information and a starting point for instruction. Assessments also provide us with information on the best approaches and strategies to tackle underlying difficulties.

On-going progress monitoring is incorporated into the student’s sessions to make sure the personalized prescribed model is moving in a positive and productive manner. Our specialists work closely with families and other providers so that skills are being generalized across settings. Students and families can track student progress and access information via a personal Google folder. Families that need additional guidance may request school support or consultation support.

Intervention utilizes multi-sensory, explicit instruction that is personalized for each individual student’s needs. Gold-standard approaches, such as Orton-Gillingham, are emotionally-sound and taught in a multi-sensory fashion. This allows for a relationship of trust and respect, while providing opportunity for feedback and molding.

Students find the benefits of personalized direct instruction to be empowering and success-focused. At EtB we recognize that being identified as learning differently is a gift. Providing instruction that makes learning happen is a way for each student to discover their gifts, and rediscover a love of learning. All learners can think, learn, and grow.
