Handwriting approaches guide students to develop a positive pencil grip, understanding letter formation and spacing, and writing organization on the paper. We do encourage students to handwrite both in print and cursive writing.
Multi-sensory approaches, such as Handwriting Without Tears and Diana King’s Handwriting programming, promote opportunities for student success.
Students who struggle with written expression sometimes also have difficulties expressing themselves through writing. They find it challenging to compose sentences, use exact words, and organize their thoughts on paper.
Using graphic organizers, checklists, and precise instruction, we provide opportunities for students to learn how to capture their thoughts accurately through writing.
We use strategies outlined by The Writing Revolution (formerly known as Teaching Basic Writing Skills) and Institute for Excellence in Writing as part of our direct instruction model. These highly-effective materials empower students and reduce pressure or heaviness associated with learning to read and write. This leaves children free to think, learn, and grow.
